UPDATE ON THE BILLY BOB MEMORIAL FUND
It was brought to my attention that the information on this blog was a little confusing. It is my hope to correct that issue with this blog.
Dabbs Greer passed in a Huntington Hospital, with complications from heart and kidney problems just weeks after his estate executor passed away here in Anderson, Missouri. I believe her name was Rickett. Thus the state of California inherited his money. He was cremated and shipped to Anderson, Missouri and B. J. Goodwin of Ozark Funeral Home. He was given a funeral and buried at the East end of his parents. His name was placed on the back of his parent’s headstone (Randall and Bernice (Dabbs) Greer).
In April 2014 we visited Peace Valley gravesite and found a lonely Avon stagecoach on the back of Randall and Bernice Greer’s headstone. There was Dabbs’ name and birthdate but no death date. The money was raised and the death date was placed on his parent’s headstone with the name and birthdate. That took place on June 6th, 2014.
Two things came to our attention. Dabbs had purchased a plot that was not being used and he did not have his own headstone. We wanted to give him some kind of memorial. We went to the Premier Memorial and got prices for a bench. Thinking this would be a fitting memorial for him. We then began raising the funds. It has been a slow process. Having begun in April with this project we believe a year is sufficient time to have completed the project. Having stated this, we have $372.67 raised as of 11/6/14. The cost of the pictured bench is $2,936.89 and the remaining balance is $2,564.22.
Between now and March 31, 2015 we will continue to raise funds. At the end of this time we will try to get the memorial initially wanted, get one within the budget at that time, or donate the funds raised to Peace Valley for care of the headstone.
We do so appreciate every donation made toward this cause. We hope that this blog will clear any confusion and give notice as to what will be happening to any funds raised.
Thank you so much to those of you who have read and responded to this cause. This is a new adventure for us and we are learning in the process.
Thank you!
